Constellations are among humanity’s oldest acts of pattern-making. Across cultures and generations, we have looked toward the night sky and found stories, relationships, and meaning in points of light separated by unimaginable distances.

Celestial Bodies translates the scale of our solar system into a field of suspended paper forms, each proportioned to the relative size of a planet and positioned according to its distance from its neighbours. Rather than pursuing scientific representation alone, the installation invites an embodied encounter with relationships that are otherwise too vast to perceive. It allows scale to emerge through experience.

Constructed from hand-sewn sheets of paper originally used to wrap the earliest SSSOAPS soap bars, the work carries the memory of one practice into another. Each sheet is crumpled, stitched, and suspended, preserving the traces of touch while transforming a familiar material into a constellation of planetary bodies.

As visitors move through the installation, contact with the paper activates hidden microphones that trigger sustained tones unique to each planet. Every interaction becomes a quiet collaboration between body, material, and sound. The installation is not complete until someone enters. Presence becomes part of its composition.

While inspired by the symbolic language of astrology, Celestial Bodies is not an attempt to illustrate a belief system. Astrology is, at its heart, a language of relationships: between planets, time, place, and lived experience. In much the same way, this installation brings material, memory, proportion, sound, and the human body into relationship, allowing new patterns to emerge through their interaction.

Rather than offering fixed meanings, Celestial Bodies creates the conditions for connection. It asks not only how we measure distance, but how we feel it, and invites us to consider our place within systems whose scale exceeds comprehension yet remains intimately woven into our lives.
